Is it possible for a man and a woman to be friends?
It has been said that it is impossible until they're 60 years old in my country, on the other hand, I heard that it can be in western society.
Why do they have a different way of thinking from relationship?
I think there are two different points of view from western countries.
To begin with, an old Korean saying has it that a boy and a girl should not sit together after they have reached the age of seven. This is according to Confucian idea. So many girls have harsh discipline in their home and are under rigid rules while many boys receive a good education outside and live a poetical life. Therefore, many Koreans have been thought to have a double standard between man and woman.
Second, many Koreans are trying to make an effort for others to make relationship with the opposite sex. So there are many matchmakers and many marriage agencies in Korea. This is because many Koreans think singles cannot go to heaven after they're dead and it can be that when i'm with someone by the side of me, many people mistake someone for my boyfriend, even people who know me.
However, nowadays, it is changed that many young people think about making a friend with the opposite sex in Korea. It is natural because the position of woman is getting higher both socially and politically than in the past and the growing social awareness has an influence on conventional thinking.
In my case, I have been thought that it is possible for man and woman to be friends without regarding to other's thinking. I believe that humans always long for humans, no matter who you are.
